Give Yourself A Monthly Fashion Treat

It seems that these days we are not always able to give ourselves that little treat, but it's something we have to do- it makes us feel good! Maybe we don't have the budget to afford high-end brands every week, but surely we must take advantage of our paycheck at the end of the month and have a mini splurge on something that makes us feel a little bit better? Here are some ideas to give yourself a fashion treat.

“It's Been A Hard Month!”

If it's been a particularly difficult month, with emotional highs and lows, give yourself that treat you've been wanting for so long. Of course, maybe you don't have the money for that Mulberry handbag but you could go for the purse instead? If you've had a hard month, and you need that little something to keep you “clutching on”, then maybe a clutch bag will give you that bit of happiness.

“Give Me Some Bling!”

If we need some bling in our lives, then we can go for a little something that adds that extra shine. It doesn't have to be a change from head to toe; you can buy some gold earrings that add a bit of dazzle to any modest getup. Or if you're looking to make that definitive statement, some sparkly heels can make you feel that bit better and give you a spring in your step. A bit of bling is always what the doctor recommends!

 “Let's Hit The Town”

You've had a bad month, you've had so much stress, and you want to just hit the town and forget about it all! Depending on your taste, you can go for a cocktail dress if you want to head to the upmarket or demure occasions, or head straight to the shoe shop and get those stilettos so you can hit the clubs! When Saturday night comes around, we can throw off the shackles of the working week, and the difficult month, by hitting the town with our girlfriends and making the most of the night.

How do you treat yourself??

For this look, I styled my Time and True High Rise Jeans and Prive Revaux Sunglasses with a salmon colored button up blouse and nude heels. I wanted to mix casual w/ stylish, so the accessories added a nice touch for me. These jeans are really comfortable and stretchy and I like the slight edginess given by the rips.

Accessorize Like A Pro

One of the best ways that you can transform any outfit is with some jewelry. The right combination can help to add the finishing touches to any well-thought-out attire, but you need to know what you are doing. Though I can’t pretend to have all the answers here,  I can give you some useful and easy to follow advice that you can put into practice yourself.

Jewelry Should Add Value to Your Outfit

Two of the most common jewelry sins you can commit are over-accessorizing and under-accessorizing. If you wear too many items, this will detract from the ones that you want to draw attention to. Wear too few and they won’t stand out. Also, you should avoid wearing the same items day after day as you have not selected them to specifically complement your outfit.

One way to tackle this issue is with Swarovski as they have amazing and unique pieces that will help you avoid over-accessorizing, but will give your outfit that extra push it needs to stand out.

Consider Your Facial and Body Features

When you are buying jewelry, you need to consider how it is going to match up with your facial features as well as your outfits. For example, if you want to draw attention to your ears, you can do long, dangling earrings. However, some simple studs are a more subtle approach, and when you are buying items to be worn on the rest of your body such as necklaces and bracelets, you should also think about the lengthening/shortening effect that each one of them has.

Complement Your Skin Tone As Well

The final main consideration which you need to make when you are accessorizing jewelry is making it work with your skin tone. Ultimately, the best way to work out which metals look best for you is by trying on a number of different pieces and comparing and contrasting. If you have cool and pale skin, you may want to try some warming tones such as gold, whereas the opposite tends to be true for people with darker skin tones, so opt for a cooling color such as silver.

Accessorizing with jewelry is something which takes a bit of practice, but once you become good at it, you can really transform the look and style of any outfit which you put on.

Accessorizing: The Right (And Wrong) Way To Get Creative

The accessories you wear can make an instant impact on your look, lift any outfit, and help you stand out from the crowd. But accessorizing the wrong way can result in a severe style disaster. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about how to accessorize the right way, and make sure you stay on point, on-trend, and avoid making mistakes.

Keep It Simple

While accessories can lift any outfit, they are also capable of overpowering it completely. You might wear an attractive bunch of bangles as a highlight, for example, but combining it with five or six necklaces is probably overdoing it - and vice versa. Too much jewelry can look a little trashy, so if you want to pile it on, only focus on one particular area and go plain and straightforward everywhere else.

Be Appropriate

Don’t turn up for work wearing your chunkiest, dangly earrings - simple and professional is all you need. Keep your playful jewelry and accessories for nights out and special occasions.

Don’t Hide

Accessories should complement your clothes, not hide or overpower them. It’s the same principle for your face. A large, low brimmed hat paired with an enormous pair of sunglasses of your choice will make you appear like you are trying to hide, and won’t do your appearance any favors. So, if you are wearing a hat, be sensible about your choice of eyewear. And if you do go for the chunky looking glasses, consider dressing in a smaller hat, cap, or even a headscarf.

It’s All About The Bag & Shoes

The plainest of outfits can look stunning with the simple addition of a great pair of shoes - and even more so when you have a bag or a clutch to match. There’s no need to splash out hundreds - or thousands - of dollars on a new pair of Louboutins, however. There are plenty of budget-friendly brands out there and off-season sales where you can pick up bargains and look great for less.

Highlight Your Best Points

Accessories not only include your outer features, but your inner ones too! A bra con be disastrous to your look, especially if it's the wrong fit and not made for your body type. Knix's comfy bras are perfect for your specific body type and just as the name says, they are comfy too!

Color On Monochrome

If you are wearing a monochrome outfit, choose a more exciting color scheme for your accessories. Similarly, if you are going out in a colorful floral print dress, keep your jewelry and accessories nice and straightforward. Use the color of your accessories to highlight what you are wearing, too. For example, if you are wearing brown clothing, you might offset it with amber or orange stones, or a yellow scarf and shoes.

As you can see, it’s easy to get accessorizing wrong - but it won't’ take much to get it right. If you have any tips to share, feel free to do so below!

The Advanced Guide to Wearing Your Boyfriend's Wardrobe

Every woman has been there. Woken up at their boyfriend’s house, only to find the only thing they have to wear is their outfit from the night before. A lot of women may choose to do the walk of shame, looking as though they have just finished their night. Families on their way to taking their children to Sunday sport, or more civilized folk on their way to their early morning gym session shoot judgmental glances at your attire. Rather than building up the courage to walk out the door wearing the same attire as the night before, consider raiding your boyfriend's wardrobe. As odd as this may sound, with the right accessories you can look casual and chic and suspecting eyes will never know the difference. Have a look at some of the outfits from your loved one's wardrobe that you can claim as your own.

Tees

An old oversized tee can look great with a pair of skinny leg jeans and heels from the night before. Not only will it dress down your outfit, but it will look glam if worn right. If you’re worried about the sizing of the shirt, a knot at the front or on the side can allow for the tee to shape your body, and provides an alternative to that dressy top you wore out to the club the night before. If the shirt is over sized enough, you may even want to consider wearing it as a dress, matched with a belt.

 Belts

So, you’ve got the over sized tee, but it isn’t providing enough shape? No problem. The next item you may want to consider adding to your outfit could be a belt. A belt can bring the tee in closer, and shape your body perfectly. Try and position it high on the waist so the shirt shapes the upper part of your body, and then let the bottom still hang loosely around your legs. Belts can also be added to your own outfits, particularly if they have an exaggerated buckle. Try cowboy belts to add a rock chick element to your outfit.

 Hooded Sweater

A hooded sweater is considered casualwear, and that is exactly what you’re looking for, right? Admittedly, a hoodie doesn’t always match every outfit you wear, however, it is much more comfortable than wearing the same clothes from your Saturday night. With a pair of jeans, or even certain skirts you can dress down your outfit while staying ultra comfortable. The best part about your boyfriends hoodie is the fact it can double as something warm to wear on those cooler nights.

Collared Shirts

Getting your hands on a collared shirt to accessorize with your current outfit is another way of turning your formal outfit into casual wear. If you find the sleeves are too long, you can always roll them up to your elbows to make them shorter. The best part about collared shirts is they can be worn in so many different ways. Try wearing it open and loose on a hotter day to allow for maximum airflow. Alternatively you can leave the buttons undone, and tie a knot around the bottom to bring the hem up and have it sit smugly around your hips. Or you can wear it over a singlet and a pair of shorts, using a belt to bring the shirt in closer, and provide a cozy but chic look in summer.  Otherwise, tuck it into your skirt or jeans and go for a casual school yard look.

Ties

So you’ve got his collared shirt, how about matching it with one of his ties? Ties are another wardrobe alternative that can be worn in many ways. You could always wear it loosely tied with the collared shirt you have borrowed, or possibly use it as a belt to hold up the jeans you’ve borrowed off him. You could even add a vest and a collared shirt to the outfit. With this alternative, you can button the collar to the top and add a tie tucked into the vest. Obviously, be careful not to use his favorite Italian necktie when accessorizing, but feel free to dress this style up as you please.

Vest

Vest’s are so outdated on men, but with a nice collared shirt a vest can look amazing on a woman. Wear the vest as a tee over a pair of shorts or jeans. You can always dress it up with a pair of heels, or dress it down with a pair of trainers.

Watches

Over sized watches are all the rage at the moment, and who says a men’s watch has to be only for men? Try add a touch of flavor to your outfit by accessorizing with your boyfriends watch. Again, be careful if it is a Rolex, as it may be too big on your wrist and you can’t risk losing something that expensive just so you look good. An over sized watch may not dress down your outfit from the night before, but it will definitely be the perfect accessory for any outfit you add it to.

Jeans

So, you only have that teeny, tiny mini from the night before, that is too short to wear in daylight hours in front of grandparents, children and other civil minded humans? Grab a pair of your boyfriends skinny leg jeans and you will be fit for a new day. Sure, they may be too big, but that’s why his tie and belt come in handy. To ensure they stay up. There’s a reason why boyfriend jeans came into fashion, and surely it is because of the need for women to get home without looking like they have just exited a club. The best thing about boyfriend jeans (particularly if they are your boyfriends) is that they are ultra comfortable, and go with almost any attire.

So, there a few alternatives and ways to wear your boyfriend’s clothes. Some styles are so good that you may never want to give him his clothes back, others may just be an alternative to the outfit from the night before. Regardless, hopefully you got some inspiration on how to accessorize and wear his clothes.

8 Style Tips For Looking Good on a Budget

If you’re a bit of a style maven, but find that your budget and credit card bill don’t allow you to be as stylish as you like, then it can be a challenge. There is the constant battle between looking good, feeling good, and avoiding getting yourself into debt unnecessarily. But you know what, your wardrobe doesn’t have to suffer. You can still style yourself well and look good on a bit more of a shoestring budget. There are just a few tips and tricks to learn to help you along the way. You just need to know what they are so you can look out for them. Here are some of my top style tips for dressing well on a budget.

1. If you have a cheaper blazer or jacket, then the chances are that they have some pretty cheap looking buttons and embellishments on them. But the key to shopping on a budget is to not take things at face value. Can you remove some of the embellishments or replace the cheap plastic buttons for some more stylish looking metal ones? If so, your jacket or blazer can look immediately upgraded, at only the cost of a few buttons. So some basic sewing skills are a must for any fashionista!

2. Keeping things simple is a great to look good for less. Take your handbag or purse, for example. Some bags have embellishments on them that just look cheap and tacky. It is pretty hard to do embellishments well, when you’re on a budget, in my opinion. So opt for a more plain and simple looking bag, rather than one with buttons or buckles all over. They bag will be much more versatile this way too, so you’ll be able to wear it with a large amount of outfits.

3. When you want to look good but spend less, there are also some shopping tips to follow, not just style tips. One of which is to shop online. There are many ways to save money when you shop online. Quite often there are discounts online that wouldn’t be in the regular stores, as well as looking on discount sites like Coupon Sherpa. Again, you wouldn’t get these kinds of discounts in the stores as they are only available online. You can often get discounts for signing up for mailing lists online too, so be sure to look out for those potential discounts. I know some people that are a bit wary of shopping online, especially when it comes to fashion. But at the end of the day, you could always try something on in a store to make sure you know what size or fit to get. Then you can go home and buy it online, looking for a coupon or discount to get it cheaper. Why pay more if you don’t need to?

4. If you can’t afford certain materials, then you need to remember that some styles and materials will look more expensive than others. Take, for example, some pumps in faux leather or faux suede. The faux suede are going to look more expensive than the faux leather ones, so they would be a better material to choose. Having said that, they will only look better if they are darker colors. Beige or nude faux suede can look quite tacky, so only opt for the fake stuff if it is in darker colors. They can look just as good as the real stuff when you do.

5. Along similar lines, there are other materials that are going to look more expensive than others. Take linen, cotton, and tweed for clothing styles, for example. These are all materials that often look much more expensive than they actually are. So some linen shorts or pants in summer, are going to look more expensive than they really are. Just make sure that you keep the clothes wrinkle-free. Too many creases can make things look less expensive. So a good iron or a clothes steamer is a great investment for any wardrobe.

6. The color of your clothes often is a good indicator of how expensive clothes are. Some patterns or colors can make clothes look quite cheap, so you do need to take your time to look for the good stuff when you’re out shopping. The second thing that you need to do is to choose darker colors. There are a lot of ways to hide how inexpensive clothes are when they are darker. So navy, browns, blacks (and some nudes) are good color choices for clothes to look more expensive.

7. Some coats, jeans, or jackets might come with belts or accessories. But often if these are of the budget variety, then the belts or accessories are pretty budget too. So swapping out these extras or accessories is a great idea. If you can find a funky or vintage belt in somewhere like a thrift store, then swap that out for the cheap option. It can upgrade the look of the jacket or coat pretty instantly. A quick little trick that can work wonders! Thrift shops are always a good idea to look for some hidden gems to accessorize with. You might not find a whole outfit that will work, but some accessories and other bits to use can often be found if you know what you’re looking for.

8. Most of the time, the inexpensive clothes are going to be the ones that aren’t lined. So investing in a slip (I say investing, but they’re actually pretty cheap), is a great way to make clothing look more expensive. It lines the clothes well so that they don’t look tacky and see through, and can often make the outfit look better on you. It will help the garment to flow better on you, as well as look more elegant. Plus, you’ve got the added bonus of avoiding some wardrobe malfunctions; always a good thing.

Have you got any tips or tricks when it comes to shopping and styling your outfits on a budget? Would love to hear what you think.
