My Top 5 Tips To Make Your Clothes Last Longer

Clothes are precious possessions. Even if you only spend a few dollars on something, you want it to last as long as possible right? It's always sad when you have to say bye to something you loved wearing. Unfortunately, clothes and accessories can get worn down pretty quickly. If you wear something frequently enough, it could be unwearable in just a couple of months. To be honest, I'm not ready to let go of my favorite clothes that quickly! I want to keep them for as long as I can, so I make sure I take care of them properly.

Here are my top tips to make your clothes last longer.

Rotate Them

You might have noticed that I have a lot of clothes. You probably do too, but do you wear them all? I try to use everything I have, or else there's no point in owning any of it. Why buy something beautiful just to leave it at the back of your closet forever? Rotating your clothes is the number one rule of making everything last longer. You need lots of clothes to be able to do that. If you wear the same pair of shoes every day for a few months, they're soon going to be worn out. So make sure you switch it up!

Store Them Properly

Are you as particular about putting your clothes away as I am? I like everything to be super organized and for it all to be stored properly. A lot of people have an organizing system for their clothes. Some people do it by color, some by garment type and some even by the season. However you choose to categorize everything, the most important thing is that you store your clothes, so they don't get damaged. You need to hang anything that shouldn't be folded, keep away moisture and bad odors and make sure there's no direct sunlight.

Follow Cleaning Instructions

I admit it, I have ruined clothes by not paying attention to how I should wash them. I'm even guilty of looking at the label, seeing that it needs to be hand washed or dry-cleaned and ignoring it (I know I'm not the only one lol). Sometimes you can't help taking the risk. It can turn out just fine if you know what you're doing. Sometimes when it says to hand wash, there's nothing wrong with a gentle cycle in the machine. The one instruction I don't ignore is to dry clean. I'll always make sure or another laundry company gets my dry cleaning done. I kind of like not having to do some of my laundry myself.... Right ladies?

Know How to Give Clothes a Refresh

Clothes don't last forever, and they can start to fade. But you can often bring them back to life with a few simple skills. If the color is fading on your dark clothes, you can re-dye them. You can use some polish or even a pen to color in a scratch on your shoes. Replacing buttons and beads can be easy too if you can do a bit of sewing.

Caring for your clothes is much easier than you might think. Put in just a little more effort so you too can make your favorite pieces last much longer.
