Vital Products Every Girl With Natural Hair Needs

Ladies....

As you might know, I'm passionate about natural hair. You can do whatever you like with your hair, but if you keep it natural, it deserves to be cared for. There are several things you should and should not do if you want to keep your locks in good condition. It's a careful balancing act to keep it hydrated without weighing it down and keep it clean without drying it out.

I have a list of essential products that every girl with natural hair should keep in her bathroom. It includes products to use in your hair and items you can use to style it.

Check out some of my essentials....

Natural Shampoo and Conditioner

I'm all about keeping things natural when it comes to my hair. I don't want any nasty chemicals ruining its delicate balance. So I'm always on the lookout for organic products that won't do any damage.

Your shampoo and conditioner are often the two products you use the most. If you use them all the time, they have to be kind to your hair. There are lots of products to choose from that contain natural ingredients. Right now, I am loving the CURLS "Blueberry Bliss" Hair Wash and Leave in Conditioner because of their natural and sulfate free ingredients and they are packed with protein, amino acids and other naturally powerful oils and botanicals to keep my strands moisturized, hydrated and healthy.

In addition, it's also a good idea to have a deep conditioner that you use regularly or at least every other wash for added hydration for your curls.

Spray Bottle

The holy grail of natural hair....

Too much product can weigh your hair down, make it stick together or worse, make it look greasy. It's often better if you can spray products on because you can get a finer mist. Not everything comes in a handy spray bottle, though, so some empty ones can be very useful. Just add whatever you want to the bottle and start spraying. It can be one of the most versatile hair products you own. You can just fill it with water or with oil if you want to smooth down some flyaway hairs. Make your own mixes too so you can get the perfect formula.

Hair Wrap

When your hair is looking its best, you want to protect it. A lot of women use a wrap to keep their style while they're sleeping, working out, or doing other things. Scarves are popular choices for protecting hair. A wrap can be more convenient, though, especially if a scarf won't stay on at night. I recently tried one out, and it felt secure and kept my style in tact for the next day.

Oils & Serums

Products containing oils will help to keep your hair hydrated. There are so many different products you can try. Coconut oil is often a favorite, but you can also find argan oil, almond oil, and much more. Finding one you like is a process that you have to explore.

I am loving the Rosarco Oil by Briogeo because it contains many oils like rosehip, coconut, argan, sunflower and rosemary oils to name a few and it keeps my strands silky and smooth and protects it from the harsh chemicals in the environment.

There are lots more products every girl with natural hair should have. These are just some of them so find the ones that work for you, but whatever you do, remember not to overdue it because too much of a good thing is just that, too much.

Target Beauty Box Unboxing

When I found out about the new Target Beauty Box from my boo @HeyCurlie, I rushed to the website so fast to order mines! This was an amazing deal that I could not past up on... 6 generous size product samples for $5 + free shipping- yes, Yes and YES!!

Here’s what I got in my Target Beauty Box:

target, beauty box, target beauty box, dove, dove creme serum, jane carter solution, jane carter solution leave in conditioner, aquaphor, shea moisture, shea moisture styling lotion, jbco, Jamaican black castor oil, curls, natural hair, natural hair products, curls creme brule, colgate, colgate toothpaste, toothpaste, colgate optic white, beauty, hair products, hair care

  1. Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner – Who doesn't love Jane Carter Products?! I remember when I first went natural, these products definitely helped me get a handle on my hair and for that, I have always been a fan. Their leave in conditioner is amazing at de-tangling all hair types while leaving the hair moisturized and soft.
  2. Dove Quench Absolute Crème Serum - I had never heard of this product, but when I read up on it, I was very curious to try it. I did use it to take down my two strand twists and I liked the way that it moisturized my hair. Next time, I plan on trying it as a styler. Stay tuned on the results....
  3. Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil – JBCO has been the talk around town from a lot of bloggers and naturally curly ladies with regards to stimulating hair growth, so I was excited to see that in this product.
  4. Curls Crème Brulee Whipped Curl Cream – Love CURLS, so of course I was excited to see it in the beauty box. If I  use the creme brule, it's as a daily moisturizer because it does not give enough hold for my tighter curl pattern but it contains ingredients like shea butter, sweet almond milk, and aloe leaf juice to keep my curls soft and help fight frizz.
  5. Aquaphor Healing Ointment – I love their products because it has so many mulit uses- lip moisturizer, make up removal and to soft the skin (especially the fee). I love that it came in a cute travel size so that I can pop it in my purse and use as needed.
  6. Colgate Optic White Platinum Express White Toothpaste - You can never go wrong with toothpaste! Although I haven't tried this particular brand of Colgate toothpaste, I'm curious to give it a go especially since it guarantees whiter teeth in 3 days- who doesn't want whiter teeth?

The box also included a 20% off coupon for Dermstore and a $3 off coupon to use at Target.

I know Target has had beauty boxes in the past, but it seems like they had a special place in their hearts for us curly haired girls this time around and I'm here for that!!

The box is currently sold out, but you can head over to Target.com to pick up full size versions of everything!

Tutorial- Bantu Knot Out w/ the Hydra Steam Moisturizing System

In this tutorial, I'm reviewing the Hydra Steam Moisturizing System from SoftSheen-Carson using my professional Hair Steamer on my friend Marissa. Her hair is currently heat damaged (mostly in the front) and she wants to transition back to her gorgeous curls. I believe this system is going to make her hair stronger and help create amazing moisture for her two textures.

The Hydra Steam Moisturizing System is a five-part system that gives hair ultimate hydration to provide you with frizz-free curls with definition and moisture. These products contain aloe, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that help restore the pH balance in the hair.

FEATURED PRODUCTS

  • Sulfate-Free Cleanser removes build-up in the hair, helps to hydrate and preps it for your conditioning steam treatment.
  • The Steam Masque is activated by using steam (preferably from a hair steamer) to infuse your hair with water and install moisture.
Hydra Steam Moisturizing System- The KaShonna Files
  • Moisturizing Sealing Spray is a leave in conditioning spray you use after your steam treatment that ensures moisturizing ingredients are secured in your hair for lasting moisture.
  • Curl Designing Cream gives a medium and flexible and leaves your hair with lots of moisture and definition with frizz control.

I am loving how this system makes natural hair more manageable and defining!  Have you tried these products yet?

Bantu Knot Out on Transitioning Hair feat. CURLS whipped cream

bantu knot out

Happy Wednesday Loves!

In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how I achieved a fierce bantu knot out on my friend Tiana's transitioning 4B hair with the CURLS whipped styling cream.

PRODUCTS USED

  • Herbalife Strengthening Shampoo. Repairs damage by leaving the hair 10x stronger and reduces breakage by 90% in the 1st use! It contains plant-derived micro-proteins (which strengthen hair) and coconut-derived cleansers that create a reach lather. A plus (my naturalistas) is that this shampoo is color-preserving, sulfate AND paraben free!
  • Herbalife Strengthening Conditioner. This microprotein infused conditioner strengthens hair strands for a softer and silkier feel after one use. Just like the shampoo, it contains hydrolyzed wheat protein (helps to strengthen and aids in repairing the hair), jojoba seed extract (known to be chemically similar to the oils in human skin, it helps improve elasticity and moisturizes) and yucca extract (thickens hair while adding volume).
  • JessiCurl Deep Conditioning Treatment. This thick deep conditioner contains ingredients like moisturizing coca and shea butters deliver intense moisture for your hair especially when used with heat.
  • CURLS Cashmere Curl Leave in Conditioner. This leave in is formulated with cashmere extract (derived from proteins found in goat hair that condition and soften the hair), certified organic aloe leaf (plant derived and contains about 75 nutrients known to promote hair growth, soothes scalp and adds strength to name a few) and coconut milk (extracted from coconuts- it nourishes, de-tangles and conditions the hair) to strengthen, repair and moisturize hair. It also bonds to the hair shaft to strengthen 3 layers of the hair to enhance your curl pattern.

  • CURLS Whipped Cream. A thick rich cream that contains ingredients like sunflower oil (light oil high in vitamins A, B, D and E), shea butter, aloe leaf juice and Tahitian coconut oil & gardenia essential oil (re-hydrates, restores shine and bounce) to provide curl definition, frizz protection, moisture and sheen.

Flat Twist Out using CURLS blueberry bliss control paste

Flat Twist Out

Since the flat twist out has been my "go-to" style since my Devacut, I wanted to try a new product to give me more hold and definition to make the style last longer. I have always been a fan of the CURLS control pastes but only used it for my edges so I figured if it's good at keeping those laid then why not use it as the styler for my flat twist out!

See how I acheived this style below....

On an old Bantu knot out....

  1. Flat twisted using CURLS "blueberry bliss control paste" & "whipped cream."
  2. Slept overnight.
  3. Next day took down/ separated using Shu Uemura "nourishing protective oil" making sure my hands were fully coated so I didn't cause a lot of frizz.
  4. Used a pick to add volume.
