Spring can be full of uncertainties. One minute it is warm and sunny outside and the next it is cloudy, rainy and freezing cold. We are either full of colds and sniffling or coughing our way through our days, and let’s not forget all of the comfort food we tend to consume when the weather isn’t too great outside. But as we are fast approaching the Summer, we can start to see some of the changes in our days. The mornings are getting lighter and the evenings less dark. It got me thinking about some of the other ways we could get ourselves ready for the Summer season.
Who else longs for the heat on their skin and a chance to wear just the one layer of clothing? I am sure I am not alone. But truth be told there should be a fair bit of preparation needed to get ourselves ready for the summer months ahead, both physically and mentally. With that in mind, here are some of the things we could do to get our minds and bodies ready for the warmer weather.
Maybe we need to think about defuzzing
There are some major positives to Winter because we spend most of our time wrapped up in all of the layers, it means we don’t have to spend too much time on hair removal when it comes to our legs and bodies. But now that Spring is almost over Summer is around the corner, there are more and more opportunities to strip off those layers and start enjoying the finer weather. This means we are going to have to pay some real attention to defuzzing our bodies.
Hair removal can be a bit of a chore, and I understand that. There are also many different options to consider. Shaving can be the easiest and most cost efficient way of removing hair, but it would require you to do it more often. Then there is waxing which can offer a more long term solution, and you can either choose to go to a salon or do it from the comfort of your own home. It’s not just hair removal we need to think about when it comes to our bodies, it will also need a bit of TLC when it comes to the condition. Wrapping up in layers means your skin may have started to dry out a little. Making it feel rough to touch and out of condition. Using an exfoliator every time you shower or bathe is a great way to help your skin regenerate new skin cells.
Give your feet some love
It’s approaching the season where you may be wanting to wear sandals or flip-flops without the constant rain, but it’s fair to say your feet will have been cooped up in socks and closed toes shoes for the last few months. That might mean your heels are cracking, your skin is dry and your nails are needing a polish and some love. So spend some time giving yourself an at home pedicure and moisturize those feet every night before bed. You won’t believe the difference it will make, and it will have you ready for those summer shoes in no time at all.
Time for a detox
You may have spent most of January on a health kick, but it’s always worth developing habits that you can stick to throughout the year. So it may be the perfect time for you to increase your water intake for the summer ahead. Water is nature's natural detox, and it naturally flushes out your body of all the bad toxins that can build up. There are also some other benefits of drinking more water throughout the day. Things like improved skin tone and condition, improved mood and better quality of sleep at night. It can be a real miracle worker and certainly a habit that will help you throughout the year. After all, with hotter weather approaching you may need to ensure you stay hydrated.
Keep that healthy eating diet going
Who says it is just January that you need to be healthy for? Why not try and take some of the diet changes through to the summer? This could be a great way to maintain your weight and feel better in your own skin. Our energy levels and how we look can have much to do with what we eat and what our diets are like. So if you have managed to refrain from alcohol throughout dry January and rainy April, then don’t go crazy at the beginning of July. Why not try and only drink an alcoholic drink at a social event instead of at home? If you have cut out the take out food or junk then why does it need to stop now? Save those items for a treat rather than adding them back into your everyday diet. Small changes can have a huge impact on how you look and feel.
Give yourself that summer glow
Not all of us are fortunate enough to jet off on holiday before summer arrives, but that doesn't mean you can’t get that sun-kissed glow. Applying a bit of self-tan or gradual tanner can give you that healthy glow without the need for hours of sunbathing. It can also really boost your mood as you can tend to look more healthy and ready for the day ahead.
Ditch the black
Now would be the ideal time to add some color back into your wardrobe. While black is an awesome fashionable color, sometimes you can just feel brighter and happier if you add a bit more color to your fashion choices. Even if it’s as simple as wearing a bright colored lipstick. Small changes can make a huge difference and certainly put us in the mood for warmer days.
