Give Your Face A Glow (Without Make-up)

Want your face to look more radiant? It’s possible to give yourself a glow without having to reach for the cosmetics. Here are just a few ways that you can brighten up your appearance.

 

Exfoliate your skin

Dry skin will give you a more dulled and tired look. Take the time every day to moisturize your face to keep it looking smooth and glossy. Not only will it make you look fresher, but it will also prevent aging to your skin, fighting off those wrinkles. Washing your face regularly with a good cleanser can also prevent spots and blackheads from appearing. For those that are more susceptible to zits, try using natural products such as tea tree and witch hazel to clear out those pores.

 

Eat the right foods

Various foods can be very healthy for your skin. Many Mediterranean foods such as olive oil, tomatoes and fish are great for fighting sun damage and providing enriching anti-oxidants into your skin, keeping those cheeks rosy. Cutting out the carbs can also lower levels of cortisol – a stress hormone that can make skin more tired and spotty. Such carb heavy foods include white bread, pasta and refined sugar. Drinking lots of water will also keep your skin hydrated and smooth.

 

Get your beauty sleep

No-one wants black circles around their eyes. Too little sleep will not just give you bags though – it can increase sensitivity to skin allergies, speed up aging and take away collagen from the skin – the chemical that is essential for giving it that glow. If you want to keep your skin healthy, make sure that you’re getting enough sleep each night and power nap when this isn’t an option.

 

Bring a shine to your smile

Pearly white teeth will immediately give your face a glow. There are many ways to whiten those. Brushing more regularly and more vigorously is the obvious answer. Finding the best toothpaste for whitening may help to speed up the process. You should also try to limit foods that may be staining your teeth such as coffee, tea and red wine, as well as limiting your sugar intake (particularly fizzy drinks). Smoking is also bad for your smile – the tar will increase the rate of yellowing. Brush more often, chew gum and use whitening products to counter the effects of these tooth staining culprits.

 

Give your hair a sheen

Shiny hair can also help frame your face better and bring out the glow in your cheeks. There are various products and serums that you can use to add shine to your hair. If you’re using these, make sure that you’re not washing those locks too regularly. Over-washing gets rid of natural oils which stop your scalp from drying out, causing dull and brittle hair. How you dry your hair can also affect its natural sheen. Don’t always reach for the hairdryer as this could be damaging your hair. Try using a microfiber towel or t-shirt and dab gently. By far the healthiest way to dry your hair is to let it air dry naturally – something you may not be able to do on weekday mornings before work, but could be worth trying out over the weekend when you don’t have anywhere to be.
