Streamline Your Skincare Routine: What Do You REALLY Need?

Walk into any drugstore, or department store beauty aisle, and you’re absolutely bombarded with products. If you’re new to skincare, it can be a complete minefield. Not only are there all kinds of weird and wonderful things claiming all sorts, but it’s knowing how to apply them and the order to put them on too! However, skincare really doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are the essentials to create a quick regime that will do your skin the world of good- without having to spend tons of time or money on it.

Day/ Night Moisturizers

Ideally, you need two moisturizers, one for day and one for night. Day creams tend to be light and easily absorbed, you pop it on in the morning, and it will protect your skin throughout the day. If you get one with added SPF, you kill two birds with one stone! It sits well under makeup without feeling heavy or sticky on the skin. Night cream is a little more rich and hydrating. Apply it after you’ve cleansed your face and it will absorb during the night to replenish and restore your skin.

An Oil or Serum

If your skin is very dry or you want to focus on anti-aging, applying an oil or serum before your night cream is the way to go. You can buy pure hyaluronic acid for face which sounds a little scary but is actually an incredible hydration product which is perfect for fine lines and wrinkles. Argan oil is also great, and coconut oil is a very budget and practical option. You can buy it from any grocery store, a small amount will hugely hydrate the skin and will cost you next to nothing.

An Eye Cream

The delicate skin around the eyes is the most prone to damage. That’s why when the signs of aging creep in, the eyes are the first to show it. You can protect against this by using an eye cream. This will nourish and protect the area, and if you spend a little more, it will contain ingredients that will actively reduce the fine lines. Retinol and neuropeptides amongst others can help to smooth the appearance. Apply a small amount in the evenings, being very careful when you’re rubbing it in. Tugging or pulling at the skin will cause damage and you’ll end up exacerbating the problem you’re trying to solve.

A Lip Balm

When you think about skincare, it’s easy to neglect or overlook the lips. However, they need just as much (if not more) care than elsewhere on the face. The lips lose more moisture than anywhere else, which is why they can so easily become sore, chapped and flaky. Invest in a couple of lip balms containing SPF, if you keep one at home, one in the car and one at work you’ll never be caught short.

Face Masks

Every now and again your skin might need a bit of pepping up, even if you stick to your skincare routine. Perhaps it’s looking a little tired, dull and lackluster. Maybe it feels a little sore, or you just want to give it a boost of hydration. Once a week (or when needed) apply one that targets the problem. Use it as an excuse to have a little ‘me- time’ you could meditate while it’s on to reduce stress or just relax in a hot bubble bath. Your skin will thank you for it, and your mind will feel refreshed and rejuvenated too.
