Streamline Your Skincare Routine: What Do You REALLY Need?

Walk into any drugstore, or department store beauty aisle, and you’re absolutely bombarded with products. If you’re new to skincare, it can be a complete minefield. Not only are there all kinds of weird and wonderful things claiming all sorts, but it’s knowing how to apply them and the order to put them on too! However, skincare really doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are the essentials to create a quick regime that will do your skin the world of good- without having to spend tons of time or money on it.

Day/ Night Moisturizers

Ideally, you need two moisturizers, one for day and one for night. Day creams tend to be light and easily absorbed, you pop it on in the morning, and it will protect your skin throughout the day. If you get one with added SPF, you kill two birds with one stone! It sits well under makeup without feeling heavy or sticky on the skin. Night cream is a little more rich and hydrating. Apply it after you’ve cleansed your face and it will absorb during the night to replenish and restore your skin.

An Oil or Serum

If your skin is very dry or you want to focus on anti-aging, applying an oil or serum before your night cream is the way to go. You can buy pure hyaluronic acid for face which sounds a little scary but is actually an incredible hydration product which is perfect for fine lines and wrinkles. Argan oil is also great, and coconut oil is a very budget and practical option. You can buy it from any grocery store, a small amount will hugely hydrate the skin and will cost you next to nothing.

An Eye Cream

The delicate skin around the eyes is the most prone to damage. That’s why when the signs of aging creep in, the eyes are the first to show it. You can protect against this by using an eye cream. This will nourish and protect the area, and if you spend a little more, it will contain ingredients that will actively reduce the fine lines. Retinol and neuropeptides amongst others can help to smooth the appearance. Apply a small amount in the evenings, being very careful when you’re rubbing it in. Tugging or pulling at the skin will cause damage and you’ll end up exacerbating the problem you’re trying to solve.

A Lip Balm

When you think about skincare, it’s easy to neglect or overlook the lips. However, they need just as much (if not more) care than elsewhere on the face. The lips lose more moisture than anywhere else, which is why they can so easily become sore, chapped and flaky. Invest in a couple of lip balms containing SPF, if you keep one at home, one in the car and one at work you’ll never be caught short.

Face Masks

Every now and again your skin might need a bit of pepping up, even if you stick to your skincare routine. Perhaps it’s looking a little tired, dull and lackluster. Maybe it feels a little sore, or you just want to give it a boost of hydration. Once a week (or when needed) apply one that targets the problem. Use it as an excuse to have a little ‘me- time’ you could meditate while it’s on to reduce stress or just relax in a hot bubble bath. Your skin will thank you for it, and your mind will feel refreshed and rejuvenated too.

I like to think that when it comes to beauty, I know everything that I need to. I’ve mastered the art of makeup.... kinda lol, I take good care of my skin, and I’ve perfected a few of my favorite hairstyles. However, something that’s missing from my beauty knowledge, like many women I know, is getting the tea on celebrity beauty secrets.

I’m not talking unrealistic beauty standards from actresses who have undergone cosmetic surgery. I’m thinking more along the lines of bright, glowing skin, perfectly curled hair, and eye makeup that never smudges. We’ve all seen celebrities step out onto the red carpet without a hair out of place. I don’t know about you, but I would love to learn their secrets. Which is why, I did some digging and uncovered a few of the very best celebrity beauty secrets to share with you.

Get professional beauty treatments

The reason that celebrities skin always look so bright is because they undergo beauty treatments. While we can attempt to mimic these treatments at home, the truth is unless you’re a professional beautician, the results won't be the same.

The good news is that while beauty treatments can be expensive, they don’t have to be. As long as you find a good clinic and choose the right treatments, you can keep the costs low (Groupon can be your BFF for this). An excellent way to find all the best treatments is via your favorite beauty brands. For instance, Clarins offer this upcoming celebrities-obsessed facial treatment. If you want flawless skin, professional beauty treatments are a must.

Pamper your hair with Argan Oil

Ever wondered how celebrities hair always looks so beautifully shiny? The reason - Argan Oil. The new kid on the beauty block, this Moroccan oil is taking the beauty industry by storm. Originally marketed as a product for hydrating hair, Argan Oil has now become so much more. A fantastic products for taming frizz, adding volume and helping to keep hair in place, it’s a spray, mousse and wax all in one!

While a little on the pricey side, this handy little oil has so many uses, that it’s more than worth the cost. As well as being able to be used on hair, new studies have shown that it can work wonders on skin.

Only use natural products

Thanks to the millions in their bank accounts, celebrities have access to all the best products. While we might not be able to spend hundreds on one beauty product, what we can do is take note of the types of products they use, and one trend that’s recently appeared is only using natural products. I wonder why that is?

The sad truth is that most beauty brands pack their products with chemicals. Which is why, most celebrities now opt to pay a little more for natural products, to keep their skin in tip, top shape, and we should be too. The good news is that while some natural beauty brands are expensive, the majority of them are affordable. So making the switch is much more affordable than you would think - Burt’s Bees and Say Yes To Carrots are two fab brands to try.

For skin and hair that’s more beautiful, take note of the secrets celebrities swear by, above.

  • Herbalife SKIN Soothing Aloe Cleanser. I LOVE this cleanser because it's very moisturizing on my normal - dry skin. It gently cleans any dirt, excess make up and environmental impurities from my skin w/o being too harsh. It contains aloe vera (good for softening & moisturizing), Rosemary,  Vitamins B3, C and E to promote healthy skin and it's Paraben and Sulfate free. I must also mention that I did have a few dark spots on my face and they cleared up in a week from using this product...... 5 STARS*****
  • Rimmel London Eye Makeup RemoverI'm loving this product at the moment because it actually removes my mascara (which is my problem area) and doesn't take off a lash or two! It also leaves my skin moisturized, not dry and it's very affordable!
  • SkinCeuticals Sports UV Defense "SPF 45". Are you using sunscreen on a daily basis??? Me either... BUT don't let me be a bad influence on your skin because using a sunscreen high in SPF is a MUST (Cheryl... listen)! With global warming on steroids right now, you have to protect of your skin. I love this sunscreen because it is water and sweat proof and contains transparent zinc oxide which protects against UVA rays (proven to cause premature signs of aging).
  • Lumene Vitamin C Day Cream. Y'all know I love me some lumene! I actually came to know about this product from my line sister during my college days at Howard and I have been hooked ever since. It contains active ingredients from the arctic region like cloudberry, an age-defying seed oil rich in omega acids that protects and strengthens the skin). I love how this moisturizer gives my skin that dewy glow and keeps me hydrated all day.
  • Tu'el Eye Corrector Firm & Lighten Gel. 1 of the 2 new products that I have been testing out lately and am loving and with this product, a little definitely goes a LONG way! • Tu'el Eye Revive Firming Cream. The 2nd installment of my newest additions. I typically use this cream at night because it is more rich in texture. It contains ingredients like tripeptide 37, which helps rejuvenate appearance of the eye area and ups the production of your skin's collagen. Antoxidants bamboo silica, lycii berry, carrot seed and pomegranate help to brighten, tone, renew and protect skin from this cray cray weather and free radicals. Last but not least, it contains one of my favorite ingredients.... argan oil which helps to condition, nourish and strengthen fatigued skin.
  • Herbalife SKIN Hydrating Eye Cream. I alternate between this product and the Tu'el Eye Revive cream (I like to keep my skin on it's toes, so it doesn't become too product dependent). This eye cream helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and keeps my skin moisturized for up to eight hours while I am resting at night. Some of the ingredients are vitamin B3, vitamins C & E, soothing aloe vera, macadamia nut oil, cucumber extract and peptide all of which help you to see results in just seven days!
