7 Ways To Get Ready For Summer

Spring can be full of uncertainties. One minute it is warm and sunny outside and the next it is cloudy, rainy and freezing cold. We are either full of colds and sniffling or coughing our way through our days, and let’s not forget all of the comfort food we tend to consume when the weather isn’t too great outside. But as we are fast approaching the Summer, we can start to see some of the changes in our days. The mornings are getting lighter and the evenings less dark. It got me thinking about some of the other ways we could get ourselves ready for the Summer season.

Who else longs for the heat on their skin and a chance to wear just the one layer of clothing? I am sure I am not alone. But truth be told there should be a fair bit of preparation needed to get ourselves ready for the summer months ahead, both physically and mentally. With that in mind, here are some of the things we could do to get our minds and bodies ready for the warmer weather.

Maybe we need to think about defuzzing

There are some major positives to Winter because we spend most of our time wrapped up in all of the layers, it means we don’t have to spend too much time on hair removal when it comes to our legs and bodies. But now that Spring is almost over Summer is around the corner, there are more and more opportunities to strip off those layers and start enjoying the finer weather. This means we are going to have to pay some real attention to defuzzing our bodies.

Hair removal can be a bit of a chore, and I understand that. There are also many different options to consider. Shaving can be the easiest and most cost efficient way of removing hair, but it would require you to do it more often. Then there is waxing which can offer a more long term solution, and you can either choose to go to a salon or do it from the comfort of your own home. This is when it may be worth taking a look to find out the best wax for hair removal to ensure you get the best results.

Exfoliation time

It’s not just hair removal we need to think about when it comes to our bodies, it will also need a bit of TLC when it comes to the condition. Wrapping up in layers means your skin may have started to dry out a little. Making it feel rough to touch and out of condition. But you can get that glowing skin look once more by adding a simple exfoliation to your routine. Using an exfoliator every time you shower or bathe is a great way to help your skin regenerate new skin cells.

Give your feet some love

It’s approaching the season where you may be wanting to wear sandals or flip-flops without the constant rain, but it’s fair to say your feet will have been cooped up in socks and closed toes shoes for the last few months. That might mean your heels are cracking, your skin is dry and your nails are needing a polish and some love. So spend some time giving yourself an at home pedicure and moisturize those feet every night before bed. You won’t believe the difference it will make, and it will have you ready for those summer shoes in no time at all.

Time for a detox

You may have spent most of January on a health kick, but it’s always worth developing habits that you can stick to throughout the year. So it may be the perfect time for you to increase your water intake for the summer ahead. Water is nature's natural detox, and it naturally flushes out your body of all the bad toxins that can build up. There are also some other benefits of drinking more water throughout the day. Things like improved skin tone and condition, improved mood and better quality of sleep at night. It can be a real miracle worker and certainly a habit that will help you throughout the year. After all, with hotter weather approaching you may need to ensure you stay hydrated.

Keep that healthy eating diet going

Who says it is just January that you need to be healthy for? Why not try and take some of the diet changes through to the summer? This could be a great way to maintain your weight and feel better in your own skin. Our energy levels and how we look can have much to do with what we eat and what our diets are like. So if you have managed to refrain from alcohol throughout dry January and rainy April, then don’t go crazy at the beginning of July. Why not try and only drink an alcoholic drink at a social event instead of at home? If you have cut out the take out food or junk then why does it need to stop now? Save those items for a treat rather than adding them back into your everyday diet. Small changes can have a huge impact on how you look and feel.

Give yourself that summer glow

Not all of us are fortunate enough to jet off on holiday before summer arrives, but that doesn't mean you can’t get that sun-kissed glow. Applying a bit of self-tan or gradual tanner can give you that healthy glow without the need for hours of sunbathing. It can also really boost your mood as you can tend to look more healthy and ready for the day ahead.

Ditch the black

Now would be the ideal time to add some color back into your wardrobe. While black is an awesome fashionable color, sometimes you can just feel brighter and happier if you add a bit more color to your fashion choices. Even if it’s as simple as wearing a bright colored lipstick. Small changes can make a huge difference and certainly put us in the mood for warmer days.

I hope these tips help you get yourself ready for the summer months ahead.

Give Your Face A Glow (Without Make-up)

Want your face to look more radiant? It’s possible to give yourself a glow without having to reach for the cosmetics. Here are just a few ways that you can brighten up your appearance.

Exfoliate your skin

Dry skin will give you a more dulled and tired look. Take the time every day to moisturize your face to keep it looking smooth and glossy. Not only will it make you look fresher, but it will also prevent aging to your skin, fighting off those wrinkles. Washing your face regularly with a good cleanser can also prevent spots and blackheads from appearing. For those that are more susceptible to zits, try using natural products such as tea tree and witch hazel to clear out those pores.

Eat the right foods

Various foods can be very healthy for your skin. Many Mediterranean foods such as olive oil, tomatoes and fish are great for fighting sun damage and providing enriching anti-oxidants into your skin, keeping those cheeks rosy. Cutting out the carbs can also lower levels of cortisol – a stress hormone that can make skin more tired and spotty. Such carb heavy foods include white bread, pasta and refined sugar. Drinking lots of water will also keep your skin hydrated and smooth.

Get your beauty sleep

No-one wants black circles around their eyes. Too little sleep will not just give you bags though – it can increase sensitivity to skin allergies, speed up aging and take away collagen from the skin – the chemical that is essential for giving it that glow. If you want to keep your skin healthy, make sure that you’re getting enough sleep each night and power nap when this isn’t an option.

Bring a shine to your smile

Pearly white teeth will immediately give your face a glow. There are many ways to whiten those. Brushing more regularly and more vigorously is the obvious answer. Finding the best toothpaste for whitening may help to speed up the process. You should also try to limit foods that may be staining your teeth such as coffee, tea and red wine, as well as limiting your sugar intake (particularly fizzy drinks). Smoking is also bad for your smile – the tar will increase the rate of yellowing. Brush more often, chew gum and use whitening products to counter the effects of these tooth staining culprits.

Give your hair a sheen

Shiny hair can also help frame your face better and bring out the glow in your cheeks. There are various products and serums that you can use to add shine to your hair. If you’re using these, make sure that you’re not washing those locks too regularly. Over-washing gets rid of natural oils which stop your scalp from drying out, causing dull and brittle hair. How you dry your hair can also affect its natural sheen. Don’t always reach for the hairdryer as this could be damaging your hair. Try using a microfiber towel or t-shirt and dab gently. By far the healthiest way to dry your hair is to let it air dry naturally – something you may not be able to do on weekday mornings before work, but could be worth trying out over the weekend when you don’t have anywhere to be.

5 Things Beauty Experts Want You To Stop Doing

Everyone has a different beauty routine to keep themselves looking great. Yours might be low-maintenance, or it could be complicated, (like all the highlighting and contouring techniques you see going around Instagram).Your regime might work for you, but many women find that they have problems. If you have an issue but you're not sure what you're doing wrong, It might be a good idea to seek a professional. I sometimes turn to people who know better than me when I don't know what I'm doing, and I've discovered that there are lots of things that dermatologists and beauty experts wish people would stop doing.

Here are some of the most important ones I found.

Using Tanning Beds

Most people know that we shouldn't spend hours tanning in the sun, and if you absolutely must, you need to put some sunscreen on. But a lot of people believe think using tanning beds is safer. Unfortunately, it's not true. People in the tanning industry would like you to think otherwise, but the scientific evidence doesn't agree with them. Research suggests that there is a link between indoor tanning and skin cancer, just like there is with natural tanning.

Straightening Damp Hair

Stylists have their own frustrations too. Drying your hair thoroughly before you straighten it can take a long time, depending on your length, but it's worth the wait. It protects your hair if you wait for it dry before you get the straighteners out, along with using a head protectant. Applying heat to damp hair can damage it, leaving it broken or frizzy. Make sure you finish with the hairdryer before you start with your straighteners.

Too Much Exfoliation

Exfoliating can be great for your skin. It helps to get rid of dead skin, keep you smooth and get your circulation going. But I recently discovered that you can exfoliate too much. Something you need to watch out for is using skin peels. They are excellent products, but you can be in danger of exfoliating too much. It can leave your skin sensitive and raw, and you might develop rashes. If you overdo it, give your skin a break to let it recover, then reassess how often you should exfoliate.

Using Too Much Makeup

I love wearing makeup as much as the next makeup addict, but I know there's such a thing as too much. Makeup should help to compliment your features, not cover them up and act as a new face (PREACH!) There are some products that women use a lot more than others, such as foundation or eyebrow pencil. If you spend an hour putting on layers of makeup every day, you need to start making your routine more simple.

Trying to Copy Trends

There are always new makeup trends you can experiment with, but that doesn't mean you have to copy them exactly. There's no need to keep up with the ever-changing fads if you have looks that work for you, and it's unlikely you'll be able to copy anything exactly anyway.

Some things in your beauty routine could be damaging, but others are just annoying or unwise. Change up your regimen now and then to keep it healthy.

Soft, Smooth Skin w/ Naturally Fly Body Products (Review)

Happy New Year loves!!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and turned up for the New Year!!

With winter finally here, I try to make sure that I use body products that have either a thicker/heavier texture or contain all natural ingredients (I prefer the ladder tho) that can withstand the frigid, disrespectful air.... I def didn't think I'd be saying that living in the south. So when Angela of Naturally Fly sent me some body products, I was excited to test them out.

She sent me over the Honey Punch and Midnight Mango body butters and the Honey Punch body scrub which all smell amazing!

The Honey Punch Body Butter contains all natural ingredients like moisturizing Shea Butter, Honey, Avocado, Jojoba, Grape Seed, Olive and Coconut oils which help to seal in moisturized during these cold winter months. This product is rich in Vitamins A and E and also helps to fight acne with antibacterial properties.

The Midnight Mango Body Butter includes the same ingredients as the Honey Punch (without the honey) along with Almond Oil. This butter is enriched with Vitamin C, great for skin rejuvenating and has a delicious tropical scent.

The Honey Punch Body Scrub contains Himalayan Sea Salt, essential oils (Olive, Grape, Avocado, Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Lavender and Vanilla) and Honey. This scrub helps to smooth muscles while leaving you skin exfoliated and soft to the touch.

What I have been loving most about these products is that they are all natural and the body butters are whipped in texture which means I can use less while still getting great coverage. They leave my skin highly moisturized so I don't need to reapply throughout the day and the smell is  not overpowering or irritating to my skin.

You can find out more about the products by visiting NaturallyFly.com

My Top Tips For Faking Beautiful Glowing Skin

If your skin isn’t perfect, don’t stress, you are not alone. It’s incredibly common to have skin imperfections, in fact, we all have them. As our faces are the main focal point of our bodies, it’s only natural that we want beautiful skin.

Even if your skin isn’t perfect, don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can’t achieve it. You may not have naturally perfect skin, but you can easily fake it til ya make it. Believe it or not, with a few simple makeup tricks, you can make your skin glow.

Exfoliate

If you want to make your skin look a little healthier, the first thing that you need to do is exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating is one of the best ways to get rid of imperfections, as it removes dead skin cells and dry skin. Exfoliation also helps eliminate bacteria from your face, to aid in preventing spots from occurring.

The key to exfoliation is to make sure that you choose a product that is free of any harsh chemicals as these can cause all sorts of damage to your skin. If you are a fan of making your own beauty products, consider using a DIY exfoliator. You can find lots of recipes online for homemade facial scrubs, so make sure to check these out.

Use primer

Before applying your makeup, make sure to use a primer. If you want to make your skin look perfect, wearing a primer under your foundation is a must. There are various types to choose from, so whatever skin type you have, there will be a suitable primer for you.

Pick a foundation with a pink undertone

The key to making your skin glow is the foundation you wear. Yes, taking care of your skin helps, but the most important thing for glowing skin is the foundation that you choose to wear. From liquid foundations to cream-to-powder ones, there are various types of foundation to choose from.

While the style of foundation you use doesn’t affect how much your skin glows, the color foundation that you opt for will do. To give your skin a beautiful glow, opt for a pink-toned foundation. You will find that by opting for a foundation with a pink undertone, your skin will naturally look healthier.

Don’t forget to add bronzer

Once you've put your foundation on, the next step is to add touches of bronzer around your face. This should be placed on your cheekbones, chin, and forehead. For glowing skin, only a small amount of light-toned bronzer is needed.

Finish with powder

Once you have applied your foundation and bronzer, the next step is to set it in place with powder. The last thing you want after spending a long time creating perfect glowing skin is your makeup to come off. That’s why, once you have created the perfect glowing look, it’s crucial that you use powder to set it.

There are plenty of translucent powders on the market to choose from, but make sure to check out Ben Nye's banana powder online. This is one of the most popular powders and is fantastic for setting your makeup in place.

Some of my favorite skin and make up products
