Practical Ways To Deal With Adult Acne

They say they are meant to be the best days of your life - but for many of us, our teenage years consist of stress, worry, and a lot of emotional and physical challenges. For a lot of us, we are glad to see the back of them, so what do you do when problems from your teenage years follow you into adult life? One example of this is acne. Acne is typically associated with teenagers, and very occasionally, people in their early twenties. Of course, everyone gets an odd pimple every now and again, or maybe a small cluster of blackheads. But acne is a far more debilitating condition that can be painful, and that can seriously knock a person's confidence. Part of the reason why acne is commonly associated with teenagers is that it is often caused by significant hormonal changes within the body. Usually, these hormones level out after a number of years and the acne clears up - but when it doesn't, it can be quite distressing to the individual suffering. Adult acne is never an easy ride, but here are a few things you can do to make your condition more bearable to live with.

Ditch the drugstore products

Whether you want to admit to it or not, acne is a skin condition - so much more than the odd spot or bi-monthly breakout. Drugstore products are simply not designed to cope with the strength and density of acne symptoms. They are instead typically designed to be mild for someone with average skin so that they can target the biggest market possible. Stop spending hundreds every year on multiple drugstore products that don't work, and instead consider prescription medication. Of course, you need to learn how to use Retin-A Tretinoin and other similar products safely and efficiently, as they can be quite strong. But they are designed to tackle even severe acne, so you can hope to get a better result from them.

Don't wear makeup every day

Your acne might affect your confidence so much that you feel as though you have to do something every day to mask the appearance of it - even just for yourself. But wearing heavy makeup all the time can quickly worsen your condition and can sometimes even make the scars appear more pronounced. Learn to accept your acne as a part of you on those days where you don't need to see anyone or leave the house. If you can, leave unusually heavy makeup for special occasions only, to let your skin breathe.

Stick to a healthy diet

While acne is mostly caused by hormonal imbalances, certain lifestyle aspects can also have an impact on its severity. Eating a diet mainly made up of processed foods and soda will only clog up your skin even further - remember your skin is an organ, and it needs vitamins and minerals to keep it healthy. Try and drink at least eight glasses of water a day and eat a diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and oily fish. It won't clear up your acne completely, but it will certainly help improve the overall appearance of your skin.

7 Ways To Get Ready For Summer

Spring can be full of uncertainties. One minute it is warm and sunny outside and the next it is cloudy, rainy and freezing cold. We are either full of colds and sniffling or coughing our way through our days, and let’s not forget all of the comfort food we tend to consume when the weather isn’t too great outside. But as we are fast approaching the Summer, we can start to see some of the changes in our days. The mornings are getting lighter and the evenings less dark. It got me thinking about some of the other ways we could get ourselves ready for the Summer season.

Who else longs for the heat on their skin and a chance to wear just the one layer of clothing? I am sure I am not alone. But truth be told there should be a fair bit of preparation needed to get ourselves ready for the summer months ahead, both physically and mentally. With that in mind, here are some of the things we could do to get our minds and bodies ready for the warmer weather.

Maybe we need to think about defuzzing

There are some major positives to Winter because we spend most of our time wrapped up in all of the layers, it means we don’t have to spend too much time on hair removal when it comes to our legs and bodies. But now that Spring is almost over Summer is around the corner, there are more and more opportunities to strip off those layers and start enjoying the finer weather. This means we are going to have to pay some real attention to defuzzing our bodies.

Hair removal can be a bit of a chore, and I understand that. There are also many different options to consider. Shaving can be the easiest and most cost efficient way of removing hair, but it would require you to do it more often. Then there is waxing which can offer a more long term solution, and you can either choose to go to a salon or do it from the comfort of your own home. This is when it may be worth taking a look to find out the best wax for hair removal to ensure you get the best results.

Exfoliation time

It’s not just hair removal we need to think about when it comes to our bodies, it will also need a bit of TLC when it comes to the condition. Wrapping up in layers means your skin may have started to dry out a little. Making it feel rough to touch and out of condition. But you can get that glowing skin look once more by adding a simple exfoliation to your routine. Using an exfoliator every time you shower or bathe is a great way to help your skin regenerate new skin cells.

Give your feet some love

It’s approaching the season where you may be wanting to wear sandals or flip-flops without the constant rain, but it’s fair to say your feet will have been cooped up in socks and closed toes shoes for the last few months. That might mean your heels are cracking, your skin is dry and your nails are needing a polish and some love. So spend some time giving yourself an at home pedicure and moisturize those feet every night before bed. You won’t believe the difference it will make, and it will have you ready for those summer shoes in no time at all.

Time for a detox

You may have spent most of January on a health kick, but it’s always worth developing habits that you can stick to throughout the year. So it may be the perfect time for you to increase your water intake for the summer ahead. Water is nature's natural detox, and it naturally flushes out your body of all the bad toxins that can build up. There are also some other benefits of drinking more water throughout the day. Things like improved skin tone and condition, improved mood and better quality of sleep at night. It can be a real miracle worker and certainly a habit that will help you throughout the year. After all, with hotter weather approaching you may need to ensure you stay hydrated.

Keep that healthy eating diet going

Who says it is just January that you need to be healthy for? Why not try and take some of the diet changes through to the summer? This could be a great way to maintain your weight and feel better in your own skin. Our energy levels and how we look can have much to do with what we eat and what our diets are like. So if you have managed to refrain from alcohol throughout dry January and rainy April, then don’t go crazy at the beginning of July. Why not try and only drink an alcoholic drink at a social event instead of at home? If you have cut out the take out food or junk then why does it need to stop now? Save those items for a treat rather than adding them back into your everyday diet. Small changes can have a huge impact on how you look and feel.

Give yourself that summer glow

Not all of us are fortunate enough to jet off on holiday before summer arrives, but that doesn't mean you can’t get that sun-kissed glow. Applying a bit of self-tan or gradual tanner can give you that healthy glow without the need for hours of sunbathing. It can also really boost your mood as you can tend to look more healthy and ready for the day ahead.

Ditch the black

Now would be the ideal time to add some color back into your wardrobe. While black is an awesome fashionable color, sometimes you can just feel brighter and happier if you add a bit more color to your fashion choices. Even if it’s as simple as wearing a bright colored lipstick. Small changes can make a huge difference and certainly put us in the mood for warmer days.

I hope these tips help you get yourself ready for the summer months ahead.

Hot Beauty Trends For Summer 2017

As the weather’s getting hot, the sweaters are going away, and the legs are coming out, it’s high time we start considering what will be hot this summer. The catwalks at London, Milan, Paris, and New York were rich with great ideas and inspiration for fun and flirty summer looks for this year, and the excitement is rising. It’s a year of brilliant mismatching, crazy glitter, and out-there lipsticks. But it’s also a year for appreciating the beauty in nature. Natural hair and flawless, glowing skin are essential this year. Everything else is just exciting and on trend adornment. Here are just a few beauty trends which are going to be all sorts of hot this year, and how you can get the look.

Natural hair

twist-out-on-natural-hair.jpg

We spend too much time trying to flatten, smooth, curl, and dye our hair. How did society somehow convince us our hair was all wrong, and the only way we could be seen in public is by making it look as far from natural as possible? Well, this year, sisters are taking it back. This year, we don’t have to dye it, we don’t have to flatten it, and we don’t have to braid it if we don’t want to.

The key to natural hair is keeping it healthy. Regular doses of coconut oil, or whatever your favorite intensive moisturizer is, will keep it glossy and bouncy, without weighing it down with chemicals. The essential thing is a good cut. If your cut is sympathetic to your hair type, you will barely need to style it once you’re out of the shower. Allowing it to air dry, especially in the summer, can be a great way to keep cool, and if you get a killer ‘do at the end of it, without having to spend an hour drying, straightening, and styling, you’re onto a winner. So, be sure to go to a stylist who is used to working with your hair type, and have a long, in-depth discussion about what you actually want to achieve, before they even get the scissors out. A stylist who knows exactly how to get the most out of your hair, with the least effort, is someone you need to keep close to you - they’re gold.

Glitter all over

Did glitter ever really go out of fashion? Who knows, but whatever its previous status, it’s certainly back this year with a vengeance. The catwalks over Fashion Week showed beautiful women’s faces caked in glitter in a statement that was difficult to miss. From chunky glitter lips, to heavy under-eye glitter liner, to everything in between, this summer’s evening look is guaranteed to be pure glitz and glam. While the heavy looks don’t necessarily seem wearable, it’s not a look which is particularly hard to achieve.

The glitter lipstick look is probably more wearable than the heavy eye-makeup. For a subtle but cute look, check out the Star Wave Glitter Tints by Cailyn Cosmetics at Sweet Sparkle Makeup. If you want something a bit more out there, be sure to keep the rest of your look neutral - you don’t want to look like a clown heading to a kid’s party, after all. Be sure to pick yourself up some fine, makeup grade glitter, and choose your favorite lipstick to match.

Start by cleaning and buffing your lips to remove any residue or dry skin, and then simply put your lipstick on. Blot the lipstick, and add a bit more on top for optimal color coverage and stickiness. Next, get a cotton ball, twirl it in your makeup glitter, and go ahead and dab it onto your lips. Keep on doing this until your lips are just as glittery as you like. Press your lips together to push all the glitter in place, and pop your finger in your mouth and pull it out to avoid the awkward glitter-tooth look which some of us are guaranteed to rock this year, and you’re good to go. Keeping the pot of glitter in your purse will allow you to top off whenever you need to, but as long as you drink through a straw and there’s no meal on the cards, the glitter should stay in place, and dazzle everyone who sees it.

Glowing skin

Every year we desperately try to make our skin glow in winter, and mattify it in the summer. It’s like we always want it to be the opposite of what it naturally wants to do. Well, this summer, embrace the glowing, dewy look - it’s going to be all the rage. Achieving the look will be different degrees of difficulty, depending on your skin type and how receptive it is to moisture. Here is a foolproof way to get the glowing look, and keep any oiliness in check this summer.

First things first, you’re going to want to stay hydrated. When your skin wants to simultaneously dry out, and become a grease fest, as many of ours want to do in the summer, it’s important to try to keep it healthy from the inside out. So lots and lots of water is essential. Secondly, your diet and exercise are going to have a bit impact. The healthier and happier you are, the more your skin will glow naturally. So get on the exercise bike, walk to work, eat well, and sleep plenty, and you’ll already start to see your skin glowing. And then it’s all about your routine. Washing morning and night with a perfume-free, gentle cleanser, followed by a gentle toner and moisturizer will create a good basis for your skin. Your moisturizer entirely depends on you and your needs - you might be a shea butter or coconut oil kinda girl, or you might just be happy with a light lotion, it’s entirely up to you. Keeping it natural and perfume-free isn’t just essential for sensitive skin, but it can also really help to avoid your skin drying out.

Once you’ve got your skin fully prepped with all of the goodies it needs to stay healthy, soft, and supple, it’s time for the makeup. In summer, a heavy, full coverage foundation can be overkill. In the hot weather, it tends to become cakey, and you’ll lose a lot of the natural glow that you’ve worked hard to achieve with your diet, exercise, and skin care regime. Sticking to a low-coverage tinted moisturizer in the summer months is the perfect way to let your skin’s natural radiance shine through, while still removing any discoloration and evening up your skin tone. Then it’s a case of contouring, if you’re a fan, popping some blush on the apples of your cheeks and bronzing the high points of your face, and then it’s onto the highlight. Highlighting is a great way to add a natural glow to your face, particularly if you’re not naturally that glowy. Go for as much or as little as you need, but remember to buff it into your skin well to avoid that stripe along your cheekbone. A translucent powder in your purse is all you need to ensure the oily shine that we sometimes get in summer stays away all day. Et voila, the perfect, summery, dewy skin.

Out-there lippy

Just like with glitter lips, this summer is the perfect time to try out all the crazy lippy shades you’ve been too nervous to try until now. Are you a fan of the chocolate browns? It might not, initially, strike you as a summer shade, but with a neutral or khaki eye and a beautifully dewy face, it can be a great statement look. This summer, though, it’s all about the oranges. Orange is a shade which, perhaps surprisingly, will work with any skin tone, as long as you choose the right variation. It works beautifully with understated eyes and fresh skin for a flirty daytime look. But it can even be worn right into the evening with a slightly heavier, smudgy eye look. It’s a fantastically versatile color, and it’s fun and lively too.

If you’re slightly nervous about your first foray into the orange lipstick, consider starting with a coral shade. The coral colors are a great compromise between orange and pink, and massively wearable on a day to day basis, for people of any skin tone. Once you’re used to seeing yourself in such a bright color, give the orange a go - you might surprise yourself. Just be sure to prep your lips properly beforehand. Always keep them moisturized with a lip balm containing an SPF, as even lips can get sunburnt when it’s hot. Before you put your lippy on, give them a quick scrub with a soft, clean, dry toothbrush to take off any dry skin, and your lippy will go on smoother and stay on longer.

This year’s beauty looks are extremely exciting. From celebrating natural hair and natural skin, to making fun statements with your makeup using color and glitter, it’s certainly a year for experimenting. Which is the key to all of this - this year, the beauty theme for summer is fun and experimentation, so be sure to make the most of it.
