Wear Your Smile with Pride

You could have the clearest skin in the world, but if you don’t smile nobody is going to be able to appreciate it. There are many different reasons people don’t like to smile. However, if your reasoning deals with the way your smile looks, perhaps a visit to the dentist for a check-up will help. After a quick cleaning (for instance), you will have sparkling teeth that you’d be glad to show off.

There is something enticing about someone with a beautiful smile, so wear it with pride.

Invest in a Good Moisturizer

Another way you can make yourself feel more radiant is by choosing a moisturizer that enhances your glow. Choose a moisturizer with a built in SPF protector so that you can prevent aging along the way too. If you have acne prone skin, it’s also a good idea to avoid moisturizer with oil, as this will clog or pores and irritate your skin.

Find Your Perfect Highlighter

A clever highlighter can work wonders for even the dullest of skin (like the fenty beauty highlighter). Head to your local makeup counter and try out a range of highlighters that might suit your skin tone. Just a flick of highlighter at the very top of your cheek bone will enhance your smile and make you feel gorgeously glow-y.

Hydrate

There is only so much you can put on your face to make it look radiant; you also need to make sure you’re feeding it from the inside too. Fill up your water bottle and drink plenty of H2o on a daily basis (approx. 8-8oz/day). This will help to keep your skin clear and it will work wonders for your overall health too.

Sleep Well

When your body is deprived of sleep it can have a real impact on the way your skin looks. Beauty sleep is the real deal, so make sure you’re getting enough shut eye each evening to avoid red eyes, puffiness, under eye bags and sallow skin.

There are many ways you can improve the look and feel of your body and face, even if it isn’t directly through skincare. Visiting the dentist regularly, eating the right foods and staying hydrated will help you to improve your overall confidence, which will then reflect onto your gorgeous glow-y skin.

Streamline Your Skincare Routine: What Do You REALLY Need?

Walk into any drugstore, or department store beauty aisle, and you’re absolutely bombarded with products. If you’re new to skincare, it can be a complete minefield. Not only are there all kinds of weird and wonderful things claiming all sorts, but it’s knowing how to apply them and the order to put them on too! However, skincare really doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are the essentials to create a quick regime that will do your skin the world of good- without having to spend tons of time or money on it.

Day/ Night Moisturizers

Ideally, you need two moisturizers, one for day and one for night. Day creams tend to be light and easily absorbed, you pop it on in the morning, and it will protect your skin throughout the day. If you get one with added SPF, you kill two birds with one stone! It sits well under makeup without feeling heavy or sticky on the skin. Night cream is a little more rich and hydrating. Apply it after you’ve cleansed your face and it will absorb during the night to replenish and restore your skin.

An Oil or Serum

If your skin is very dry or you want to focus on anti-aging, applying an oil or serum before your night cream is the way to go. You can buy pure hyaluronic acid for face which sounds a little scary but is actually an incredible hydration product which is perfect for fine lines and wrinkles. Argan oil is also great, and coconut oil is a very budget and practical option. You can buy it from any grocery store, a small amount will hugely hydrate the skin and will cost you next to nothing.

An Eye Cream

The delicate skin around the eyes is the most prone to damage. That’s why when the signs of aging creep in, the eyes are the first to show it. You can protect against this by using an eye cream. This will nourish and protect the area, and if you spend a little more, it will contain ingredients that will actively reduce the fine lines. Retinol and neuropeptides amongst others can help to smooth the appearance. Apply a small amount in the evenings, being very careful when you’re rubbing it in. Tugging or pulling at the skin will cause damage and you’ll end up exacerbating the problem you’re trying to solve.

A Lip Balm

When you think about skincare, it’s easy to neglect or overlook the lips. However, they need just as much (if not more) care than elsewhere on the face. The lips lose more moisture than anywhere else, which is why they can so easily become sore, chapped and flaky. Invest in a couple of lip balms containing SPF, if you keep one at home, one in the car and one at work you’ll never be caught short.

Face Masks

Every now and again your skin might need a bit of pepping up, even if you stick to your skincare routine. Perhaps it’s looking a little tired, dull and lackluster. Maybe it feels a little sore, or you just want to give it a boost of hydration. Once a week (or when needed) apply one that targets the problem. Use it as an excuse to have a little ‘me- time’ you could meditate while it’s on to reduce stress or just relax in a hot bubble bath. Your skin will thank you for it, and your mind will feel refreshed and rejuvenated too.

Hot Beauty Trends For Summer 2017

As the weather’s getting hot, the sweaters are going away, and the legs are coming out, it’s high time we start considering what will be hot this summer. The catwalks at London, Milan, Paris, and New York were rich with great ideas and inspiration for fun and flirty summer looks for this year, and the excitement is rising. It’s a year of brilliant mismatching, crazy glitter, and out-there lipsticks. But it’s also a year for appreciating the beauty in nature. Natural hair and flawless, glowing skin are essential this year. Everything else is just exciting and on trend adornment. Here are just a few beauty trends which are going to be all sorts of hot this year, and how you can get the look.

Natural hair

twist-out-on-natural-hair.jpg

We spend too much time trying to flatten, smooth, curl, and dye our hair. How did society somehow convince us our hair was all wrong, and the only way we could be seen in public is by making it look as far from natural as possible? Well, this year, sisters are taking it back. This year, we don’t have to dye it, we don’t have to flatten it, and we don’t have to braid it if we don’t want to.

The key to natural hair is keeping it healthy. Regular doses of coconut oil, or whatever your favorite intensive moisturizer is, will keep it glossy and bouncy, without weighing it down with chemicals. The essential thing is a good cut. If your cut is sympathetic to your hair type, you will barely need to style it once you’re out of the shower. Allowing it to air dry, especially in the summer, can be a great way to keep cool, and if you get a killer ‘do at the end of it, without having to spend an hour drying, straightening, and styling, you’re onto a winner. So, be sure to go to a stylist who is used to working with your hair type, and have a long, in-depth discussion about what you actually want to achieve, before they even get the scissors out. A stylist who knows exactly how to get the most out of your hair, with the least effort, is someone you need to keep close to you - they’re gold.

Glitter all over

Did glitter ever really go out of fashion? Who knows, but whatever its previous status, it’s certainly back this year with a vengeance. The catwalks over Fashion Week showed beautiful women’s faces caked in glitter in a statement that was difficult to miss. From chunky glitter lips, to heavy under-eye glitter liner, to everything in between, this summer’s evening look is guaranteed to be pure glitz and glam. While the heavy looks don’t necessarily seem wearable, it’s not a look which is particularly hard to achieve.

The glitter lipstick look is probably more wearable than the heavy eye-makeup. For a subtle but cute look, check out the Star Wave Glitter Tints by Cailyn Cosmetics at Sweet Sparkle Makeup. If you want something a bit more out there, be sure to keep the rest of your look neutral - you don’t want to look like a clown heading to a kid’s party, after all. Be sure to pick yourself up some fine, makeup grade glitter, and choose your favorite lipstick to match.

Start by cleaning and buffing your lips to remove any residue or dry skin, and then simply put your lipstick on. Blot the lipstick, and add a bit more on top for optimal color coverage and stickiness. Next, get a cotton ball, twirl it in your makeup glitter, and go ahead and dab it onto your lips. Keep on doing this until your lips are just as glittery as you like. Press your lips together to push all the glitter in place, and pop your finger in your mouth and pull it out to avoid the awkward glitter-tooth look which some of us are guaranteed to rock this year, and you’re good to go. Keeping the pot of glitter in your purse will allow you to top off whenever you need to, but as long as you drink through a straw and there’s no meal on the cards, the glitter should stay in place, and dazzle everyone who sees it.

Glowing skin

Every year we desperately try to make our skin glow in winter, and mattify it in the summer. It’s like we always want it to be the opposite of what it naturally wants to do. Well, this summer, embrace the glowing, dewy look - it’s going to be all the rage. Achieving the look will be different degrees of difficulty, depending on your skin type and how receptive it is to moisture. Here is a foolproof way to get the glowing look, and keep any oiliness in check this summer.

First things first, you’re going to want to stay hydrated. When your skin wants to simultaneously dry out, and become a grease fest, as many of ours want to do in the summer, it’s important to try to keep it healthy from the inside out. So lots and lots of water is essential. Secondly, your diet and exercise are going to have a bit impact. The healthier and happier you are, the more your skin will glow naturally. So get on the exercise bike, walk to work, eat well, and sleep plenty, and you’ll already start to see your skin glowing. And then it’s all about your routine. Washing morning and night with a perfume-free, gentle cleanser, followed by a gentle toner and moisturizer will create a good basis for your skin. Your moisturizer entirely depends on you and your needs - you might be a shea butter or coconut oil kinda girl, or you might just be happy with a light lotion, it’s entirely up to you. Keeping it natural and perfume-free isn’t just essential for sensitive skin, but it can also really help to avoid your skin drying out.

Once you’ve got your skin fully prepped with all of the goodies it needs to stay healthy, soft, and supple, it’s time for the makeup. In summer, a heavy, full coverage foundation can be overkill. In the hot weather, it tends to become cakey, and you’ll lose a lot of the natural glow that you’ve worked hard to achieve with your diet, exercise, and skin care regime. Sticking to a low-coverage tinted moisturizer in the summer months is the perfect way to let your skin’s natural radiance shine through, while still removing any discoloration and evening up your skin tone. Then it’s a case of contouring, if you’re a fan, popping some blush on the apples of your cheeks and bronzing the high points of your face, and then it’s onto the highlight. Highlighting is a great way to add a natural glow to your face, particularly if you’re not naturally that glowy. Go for as much or as little as you need, but remember to buff it into your skin well to avoid that stripe along your cheekbone. A translucent powder in your purse is all you need to ensure the oily shine that we sometimes get in summer stays away all day. Et voila, the perfect, summery, dewy skin.

Out-there lippy

Just like with glitter lips, this summer is the perfect time to try out all the crazy lippy shades you’ve been too nervous to try until now. Are you a fan of the chocolate browns? It might not, initially, strike you as a summer shade, but with a neutral or khaki eye and a beautifully dewy face, it can be a great statement look. This summer, though, it’s all about the oranges. Orange is a shade which, perhaps surprisingly, will work with any skin tone, as long as you choose the right variation. It works beautifully with understated eyes and fresh skin for a flirty daytime look. But it can even be worn right into the evening with a slightly heavier, smudgy eye look. It’s a fantastically versatile color, and it’s fun and lively too.

If you’re slightly nervous about your first foray into the orange lipstick, consider starting with a coral shade. The coral colors are a great compromise between orange and pink, and massively wearable on a day to day basis, for people of any skin tone. Once you’re used to seeing yourself in such a bright color, give the orange a go - you might surprise yourself. Just be sure to prep your lips properly beforehand. Always keep them moisturized with a lip balm containing an SPF, as even lips can get sunburnt when it’s hot. Before you put your lippy on, give them a quick scrub with a soft, clean, dry toothbrush to take off any dry skin, and your lippy will go on smoother and stay on longer.

This year’s beauty looks are extremely exciting. From celebrating natural hair and natural skin, to making fun statements with your makeup using color and glitter, it’s certainly a year for experimenting. Which is the key to all of this - this year, the beauty theme for summer is fun and experimentation, so be sure to make the most of it.

My Beauty Basics For Spot Prone Skin

At some point or another, we will all suffer from an odd spot or two. Some of us, however, not only have spots appear once or twice a month, we have to live with them day in, day out.
In case you are struggling with acne, I thought that I would share a few beauty basics for keeping your skin healthy.

iphone-20151117224304-0.jpg

Sometimes, it can be hard to know what to do, especially as you receive differing advice from lots of sources. That’s why, I thought I would share these beauty basics, so that you can achieve healthy, spot-free skin, without the stress.

Cleanse your skin morning and night

Many of us only clean our skin in the evening. However, to keep your face clear of spots, cleansing both in the morning and evening is a good idea. If your skin is prone to blemishes, keeping it clean is incredibly important. Dead skin cells, oil and other impurities can clog our pores, leading to breakouts. So removing these substances from your face is important, which is where cleansing comes in.

To keep your skin free of spots, you need to cleanse it twice a day with a natural cleanser. Steer clear of products containing chemicals, as these can make spots worse. Washes containing pure aloe vera and witch hazel, often have fantastic results.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

When you cleanse your skin, it becomes dry as cleanser takes some of the good oils out of your skin. To give your skin a boost of hydration, after cleansing always apply a chemical-free moisturizer. Products containing chemicals are more likely to upset your skin, causing breakouts to last longer. So when it comes to choosing what you use on your face, it’s always best to steer clear of chemicals.

Treat your spots

Where to buy:   Target.com

Where to buy: Target.com

When you notice a couple of spots appearing, don’t leave them, treat them. There are hundreds of different methods for treating spots, but two of the best are applying witch hazel or pure aloe vera gel. While these natural remedies may sting a little, the antiseptic properties of the plants will dry the spots out and help them to heal.

If your acne is bad, you may want to consider undergoing professional treatment. You will find that as well as getting doctor-prescribed treatment, another a great option is visiting a medispa. These centers offer all sorts of treatments, including a range of choices for acne. (If your skin is bad, a visit to your local spa is worth considering - these treatments can really help.)

Be choosy about your products

Okay, so I may have mentioned above how important it is to use natural products, but it’s worth repeating. (Yes, it really is that important.) When picking beauty products, always look for toners, cleansers and creams made for acne-prone skin. When choosing makeup, always make sure to buy from brands that offer natural products. Products containing chemicals can mess up the balance of your skin, making spots worse.

Want to keep your skin beautiful and spot-free? Take note of the basics above - they’ll help you to keep your skin looking and feeling fabulous.
